Vanderbilt University Hospital recently earned an “A” Hospital Safety Score from the Leapfrog Group, placing VUH among the safest hospitals in the nation.

The Leapfrog Group, which also publishes a separate Top Hospitals list each year in late November, is a coalition of public and private purchasers of employee health coverage that works to encourage health care safety, quality and affordability.

Together, Leapfrog members provide health benefits to more than 37 million Americans in all 50 states.

This latest “A” list calculated scores for hospitals across the nation with assistance from the Hospital Safety Score as well as the Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel.

Scores were created using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors and infections.

Approximately 2,600 hospitals across the nation were surveyed and assigned grades of A, B, C, D or F for their safety. The safety score for each hospital can be found at http://hospitalsafetyscore.org/.
