Tennessee government affairs veteran Nathan Green will join Vanderbilt University’s public affairs team Dec. 1 in the newly created position of assistant vice chancellor for state government relations.

As a partner in the government relations firm RobinsonGreen for the past 14 years, he has provided services for clients in a variety of industries, including telecommunications, pharmaceutical, natural gas, small business, education and municipal governments. He also has taken a lead role in negotiating agreements on some of the biggest issues before the General Assembly.

“Nathan is a widely respected government affairs professional who brings outstanding credentials to this new position,” Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Beth Fortune said. “As an institution that has an impact in the districts of every legislator, Vanderbilt cares deeply about engaging with our state elected officials. Nathan will take our government relations efforts to an even higher level, and I am so pleased he will be joining our team.”

“I am honored to be joining such a respected institution that has outlined a vision for state government relations that both appealed to me and will challenge me,” Green said. “[rquote]I look forward to working with the talented faculty and staff in advancing Vanderbilt’s legislative priorities and exploring new ways to partner with elected officials on important issues to the state and the university.”[/rquote]

At Vanderbilt, Green will develop and direct state legislative and government strategies that advance the overall interests of Vanderbilt University and Medical Center with respect to higher education, academic medicine and health care policy. He will also coordinate Vanderbilt’s state activities in these areas with state associations of which Vanderbilt is a member.

From 1994 to 2000, Green served as executive assistant to Shelby County Mayor Jim Rout. A graduate of the University of Memphis, he began his career in the office of the Shelby County trustee.
