The Gold Humanism Honor Society’s (GHHS) Program Committee has recognized the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine chapter as a “2018 Distinguished GHHS Chapter.”

Three of the 150 GHHS chapters received the award, which is given as recognition of exemplary achievement in fostering humanism in medicine through chapter-initiated actions, events and research.

Brian Drolet, MD, assistant professor of Plastic Surgery; Amy Fleming, MD, associate dean for Medical Student Affairs; Keith Meador, MD, professor of Psychiatry, Religion and Health Policy; William Cutrer, MD, associate professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology; and Katherine Anderson, staff adviser, serve as VUSM chapter advisers and have been recognized for their leadership and dedication to their community of patients and students.

The chapter recognition comes with a $750 award to use for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic season to enhance the chapter’s activities, as well as an individualized commemorative plaque for display.

The GHHS is the heart of the Gold Foundation’s community of caring. The Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s overarching goal is to create the Gold Standard in health care — compassionate, collaborative and scientifically excellent care — to support clinicians throughout their careers, so the humanistic passion that motivates them at the beginning of their education is sustained throughout their practice.

“I am so proud of our GHHS chapter and our chapter advisers for receiving this award. It recognizes their extraordinary commitment to living out the values of the Gold Foundation and serving as exemplars for others,” said Bonnie Miller, MD, MMHC, Senior Associate Dean for Health Sciences Education and Executive Vice President Educational Affairs for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
