Study highlights need for orthopaedic surgeons to use caution when prescribing opioid pain medications
Jun. 4, 2015—A Vanderbilt physician researcher is highlighting that orthopaedic surgeons are among the highest prescribers of opioid pain medicine in the United States and calling on practitioners to exercise caution when prescribing the potentially addictive pain medicine.
Mar. 20, 2014—“Doctor shopping,” or going to multiple doctors for narcotic prescriptions, is prevalent among more than 20 percent of orthopaedic trauma patients, according to a Vanderbilt study released at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting in New Orleans.
