Feb. 25, 2021—Blythe Corbett, PhD, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and investigator with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, recently led a study which found that on average, females with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experienced the onset of puberty 9.5 months earlier than their peers.
Feb. 24, 2021—Stephen Engstrom, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, is an expert at replacing and repairing hips and other major joints. Last year his expertise allowed for a unique patient, 83-year-old John Livingston, to return to his passion — drag car racing.
Feb. 18, 2021—On Friday, Feb. 5, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences hosted the third annual Harold Jordan Diversity and Inclusion Lecture featuring guest speaker Ruth Shim, MD, MPH, professor of Cultural Psychiatry and Clinical Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis.
Feb. 18, 2021—Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital has performed its first osteochondral allograft, a grafting method used to treat cartilage injuries that expose underlying bone. The procedure, which requires advanced training in sports medicine, was performed by Collin Bills, MD, on Jan. 26.
Feb. 11, 2021—The Vanderbilt Maternal Addiction Recovery Program (VMARP) is offering virtual appointments to help reach patients in Nashville’s outlying areas for treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).
Jan. 28, 2021—Victoria Morgan, PhD, and Allen Timothy Newton, PhD, both biomedical engineers and faculty of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, have teamed up with Stephen Wilson, PhD, associate professor of Hearing and Speech Sciences, to offer brain function mapping services to Vanderbilt brain surgeons and their patients.
Jan. 21, 2021—Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Bill Wilkerson Center, Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences, has been awarded the Special Olympics’ Golisano Health Leadership Award for Tennessee. The award is the highest honor health partners can receive from the Special Olympics.
Jan. 7, 2021—The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has awarded Nichole Foster, MBA, MEd, CPhT, director of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Pharmacy Technicians Training Program, with a Distinguished Service Award.
