Nov. 25, 2019—Shiayin Yang, MD, an otolaryngologist who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive facial surgery, has joined VUMC after completing a fellowship at the University of Michigan.

Longtime Wilkerson Center benefactor Yount dies at 88

Nov. 21, 2019—Jane Wilkerson Yount, a longtime supporter of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center and a former member of its board of directors, died Nov. 18. She was 88.

On Halloween, speech therapists at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital led children trick-or-treating around patient floors and nursing stations as part of their routine therapy. Children used socialization and pragmatic language skills to ask staff for treats and practiced their “K” sounds as they said “trick or treat” and “thank you.”

Workshop creates modified toys for children with physical disabilities

Oct. 31, 2019—The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences in the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center recently hosted an adapted toy workshop to create a loaner library of toys that are accessible for children with physical disabilities.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology recently kicked off the first phase of renovations for the Labor and Delivery unit. Staff from the department helped “retire” the wallpaper in the current delivery rooms by tearing it off the walls. The construction is part of an approximately year-long project to overhaul the birthing area at VUMC to enhance the patient experience with more amenities, a modern design and increased post-partum privacy. The project began this summer with renovations in the Obstetrics Triage unit.
