Vanderbilt Trauma surgeons speak out against proposed motorcycle helmet legislation
Mar. 17, 2014—Despite 40 years of definitive data that confirms increased deaths and medical costs in states that do not support universal motorcycle helmet laws, members of Tennessee’s legislature have again this year filed legislation — Senate Bill 548/House Bill 44, Helmet Exemption for Certain Motorcycle Operators — to amend the state’s law so that wearing a motorcycle helmet would be optional for riders 25 and older.
Southwest Airlines provides Vanderbilt patients with free flights

Vanderbilt to study use of plasma on LifeFlight
Oct. 29, 2013—Vanderbilt University Medical Center will participate in a national trial to see if outcomes for critically injured patients with uncontrolled bleeding can be improved by administering plasma to these patients while in flight to the hospital.
Trauma surgical skills training course lands certification
Aug. 22, 2013—Vanderbilt University Medical Center is now certified as Tennessee’s only teaching site for an advanced trauma surgical skills training course offered at fewer than 50 hospitals worldwide.
