Mark Frisse, M.D., M.S., MBA, Accenture Professor of Biomedical Informatics and vice chair for business development in that department, has been selected to receive the American Medical Informatics Association’s 2016 Don Eugene Detmer Award for Health Policy Contributions in Informatics.
The award recognizes “an individual who has made a significant singular contribution or series of contributions over the course of a career exemplifying the expertise, passion and spirit that Dr. Detmer has for health policy. Recipients of the award exhibit visionary leadership in the health policy realm and action-oriented advocacy work producing a regional, national or global result.”
According to the department of Biomedical Informatics website, Frisse’s work “focuses on the intersection between health care informatics, economics, policy, and health care transformation. His primary research is directed toward an understanding of economic sustainability and toward the development of technical and administrative measures to enable effective care coordination and to ensure the integrity of security and privacy efforts.”
Frisse has worked with states and communities to develop health information technology programs, including leading the development and oversight of a six-year federal- and state-sponsored effort to create and operate a patient health information exchange among hospitals and physicians in the greater Memphis area.
The award will be presented Nov. 12 in Chicago at the association’s annual leadership dinner.
