Three team responses were recognized among the state’s best, highlighting lifesaving collaboration and critical care across multiple emergency incidents.

Upperman, who joined Vanderbilt in 2019, is one of 52 individuals from business, government, education, medical and nonprofit sectors across the state to make up the 2026-2027 cohort.

Awards were presented during the annual Spring Faculty Assembly on May 29.

Three Department of Biostatistics faculty have won new leadership roles and honors in the American Statistical Association and the International Statistical Institute

The new research leadership structure "will allow the Department of Medicine to support a breadth of research with an eye to funding diversification, recruitment in strategic areas, and mentorship of trainees and faculty in all forms of research," said department Chair Anna Hemnes, MD.

“This was much more than an operational improvement; it was a complete cultural transformation.”

Led by Simon Vandekar, PhD, a group of biostatisticians earned the honor for tools that help brain researchers tell strong, trustworthy findings from weak ones. Vanderbilt Health teams took two of 15 total NIH prizes.
