Ellen Wright Clayton, M.D., J.D., the Craig-Weaver Professor of Pediatrics and professor of Law at Vanderbilt University, recently received the 2015 Frank H. Morriss Jr. Leadership Award from the University of Iowa.
The award is granted in honor of Frank H. Morriss Jr., M.D., professor and former head of the Department of Pediatrics, University of Iowa.
It recognizes sustained leadership in an academic setting that has resulted in the improved health or well-being of children through innovation in clinical care, investigation of children’s diseases and problems, advocacy on behalf of child health or facilitation of collaborative efforts. The award is given out every other year.
Nominees for the award can be from any academic institution in the world.
Upon receiving the award, the recipient is invited to deliver a grand rounds presentation to faculty and trainees at the University of Iowa.
Clayton is known for being active in debates on ethical and policy issues surrounding research and the clinical care of children.
She traveled to Iowa recently to receive a plaque and gave a lecture titled, “Lessons Learned on My Path to Child Advocacy.”
“Dr. Clayton earned our admiration not only for her accomplishments and lecture, but also for her perseverance in traveling to Iowa City and home despite severe weather obstacles,” said Morriss.
