The next virtual forum on diversity and inclusion for the Vanderbilt University Medical Center community will be held from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23.
This is the second forum led by VUMC leaders that will continue to address community-wide fear and uncertainty that has followed the recent deaths of George Floyd and other black Americans. The first forum, on June 5, drew more than 750 participants.
The goal is to provide an opportunity for members of the VUMC community to discuss racism and unconscious bias, and to encourage them to engage with and support each other during this particularly difficult time.
Kate Payne, JD, RN, NC-BC, associate professor of Biomedical Ethics, will moderate Tuesday’s discussion. Participants will include:
- Kecia Carroll, MD, MPH, associate professor of Pediatrics and director of Faculty Inclusion and Diversity, Office of Faculty Development, Department of Pediatrics;
- André Churchwell, MD, Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Vanderbilt University and VUMC’s Chief Diversity Officer;
- Marilyn Dubree, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Executive Chief Nursing Officer, VUMC;
- Quianda Harris, EdD, Clinical Counselor, Work/Life Connections-Employee Assistance Program;
- Jim Kendall, LCSW, manager, Work/Life Connections-Employee Assistance Program;
- C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC;
- Meg Rush, MD, president of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt; and
- Cordell Simpson, MDiv, DDiv, Chaplain, Pastoral Care
