The VUMC P.R.I.D.E. Employee Resource Group announced the inaugural Pronoun Pride Day at VUMC will be Wednesday, June 22. VUMC employees will have an opportunity to share their support for the LGBTQ+ community by simply sharing their pronouns they go by.
LGBTQ+ members and allies at VUMC on Pronoun Pride Day are encouraged to wear pronoun buttons that state their pronouns. Colleagues are also encouraged to update their Zoom handle and work email signature to include their pronouns.
There are pronouns people use beyond he and she, including gender-neutral pronouns such as they or ze.
Pronoun buttons and adding pronouns to signatures and Zoom handles are ways to help prevent individuals from being misgendered. In addition, they help eliminate assumptions of an individual’s pronouns based on their appearance.
VUMC employees can pick up free pronoun buttons at the Program for LGBTQ Health located at 305 Light Hall. There are six types of pronoun buttons available — She/Her, He/Him, They/Them, She/They, He/They and Ask me about my pronouns!
The P.R.I.D.E ERG is open to all VUMC employees and celebrates the vibrant community of LGBTQ+ employees at VUMC. In addition, the group champion VUMC’s Strategic Directions of “Making Diversity and Inclusion Intentional” by creating a more inclusive workplace through education, communication, and mentorship.
