The third annual Swim Across America – Nashville was held April 21 at Ensworth Natatorium on the Ensworth School’s Frist Campus. The event raises funds for research at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

This year the event raised $110,000. Last year’s event supported Jennifer Duke, MD, who is investigating the effectiveness of combining cryotherapy with robot-assisted bronchoscopies to pretreat suspicious lung nodules before the tumors are surgically removed.

The 2022 grant supported research by Michael Topf, MD, to develop a protocol for 3D scans of resected cancer specimens that can be utilized for better defining surgical margins to remove residual, cancerous cells.

Swim Across America, which held its first charity swim in 1987, has raised over $100 million for cancer research throughout the United States.
