Bill Frist, M.D., former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, speaks to a packed Light Hall during last week’s Norman E. Shumway Jr. Lectureship in Transplantation.
The Vanderbilt Transplant Center founder reflected on the accomplishments of Shumway (pictured above), heralded as the father of heart transplantation. Frist delivered his prognosis on the future of health care, urging a move away from a fee-for-service model to a system based on the care delivery value chain he called the “framework for health care delivery for the 21st century.”
