Nashville scientists will describe their efforts to relieve suffering around the world during an April 2 symposium on global health research.
The symposium, sponsored by the Vanderbilt University Institute for Global Health, will be held from 4:10 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in 214 Light Hall.
Speakers and topics include:
• Spyros Kalams, M.D., associate professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt — challenges in counting the immune cells targeted by HIV;
• Catherine McGowan, M.D., assistant professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt — CASAnet (Caribbean, Central and South America network for HIV epidemiology);
• Lawrence Merin, assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Vanderbilt and director of the Vanderbilt Ophthalmic Imaging Center — retinal screening in Peru;
• Timothy Sterling, M.D., associate professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt — tuberculosis research in Brazil; and
• Flora Ukoli, MBBS, MPH, associate professor of Surgery at Meharry Medical College — dietary risk factors for prostate cancer in Nigeria.
