Residency program helps new nurses make transition
Vanderbilt Medical Center's Nurse Residency program, designed to help new nurses make the transition from student to professional nurse, welcomed its first class recently.
The 194 nurses represent 64 schools of nursing from 20 different states and were selected for this prestigious program through a rigorous process that involved more than 800 hours of one-on-one candidate interviews.
“Welcome to the first day of your nursing career,” said Debianne Peterman, Ph.D., M.S.N., director of Nursing Education and Development for VMC. “Our team has developed this program with two goals in mind — to ensure patients receive the very best care and to help you become the best.”
This group will receive clinical exposure in several areas within the pediatric or adult hospital rotation to make the best fit between their skills and interests and the various units throughout the Medical Center during the 12-month program.
