Dylan Spencer, 3, gives Thomas Abramo, M.D., a fist-bump during a recent emotional reunion as, from left, Kate Copeland, R.N., Dylan's mother, Stacey Spencer, and Lee Blair, R.N., enjoy the moment. On June 11, Dylan was rushed to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt's emergency department after going into cardiac arrest at a dialysis clinic. For nearly two hours, the emergency team, led by Abramo, performed CPR on the boy and even started him on dialysis during the resuscitation efforts, a remarkably rare occurrence. The child not only pulled through, but has no neurological damage.
