Medical Center leadership answers the tough questions about what the elevate program is and what it means for the people who work at VUMC.
Question: Are there plans to tie job evaluation scores for managers to their employee satisfaction scores? It appears some managers who receive poor scores on the employee survey end up scoring highly on their job evaluations. Isn't this disconnection a problem to be corrected?
Answer: Employee satisfaction is a prominent goal under elevate, and when leaders evaluate the job performance of leaders who report to them, they're expected to give careful consideration to employee satisfaction survey results.
There may be many reasons why a leader's community survey scores are low. Sometimes reorganization or restructuring within the department has created discomfort for employees. Sometimes there are performance issues that are being addressed for the first time.
In those instances where the manager domain scores are low because the manager is not perceived favorably, that manager will be expected to develop an action plan to address the concerns. This will be monitored in the next year's survey to look for improvements.
An otherwise very promising leader may need extra support and guidance where employee satisfaction is concerned, and we hope that leader will seek and receive support for improvement from their one-up leader and from Human Resources.
