Changes approved to Nursing Bylaws
Nearly 80 nursing delegates representing various units, clinics, and procedural areas of all hospitals at Vanderbilt University Medical Center convened in Light Hall this week for the Nursing Bylaws Convention.
The meeting is typically held every two years, but was planned again this year to approve significant changes made to the newly reinstated Nursing Bylaws.
The bylaws create a structure and provide guidance to nurses in all areas across the Medical Center and off-site clinics. “These are changes that improve the way we do work together,” said Marilyn Dubree, M.S.N., R.N., chief nursing officer and director of Patient Care Services.
The work to reinstate the Nursing Bylaws is another stepping stone in the process of applying the shared governance model of training for nurses at VUMC, and in turn will help efforts leading to the Medical Center achieving Magnet Status in nursing care by December of 2005.
