The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is recruiting a team for Light the Night, a fund-raising walk to benefit the work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The 1.5-mile walk at Granny White Park in Brentwood will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.
Light the Night walkers who raise a minimum of $25 in sponsorships will carry an illuminated balloon around the park — white for cancer survivors and red for all others. T-shirts, sweatshirts and other gifts are awarded for raising higher amounts.
The event is family-friendly, with face painters, clowns and “moon walks” for the children. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are also welcome.
Proceeds support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s activities to fund medical research, support government advocacy and patient assistant programs, advance medical education and provide important public education.
The Society estimates that more than 640,000 adults and children are living with a blood-related cancer. Someone new is diagnosed every five minutes and someone dies from one of these diseases every nine minutes.
