Children’s Hospital Safety Fair is Sept. 29, 30
The 12th Annual Health and Safety Fair, sponsored by Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, will be held Sept. 29 and 30 at Wal-Mart on the corner of Nolensville and Bell Roads.
This year’s fair will feature a variety of interactive booths and special programs designed to teach children, adolescents and adults how to keep their families healthy and safe.
A free car seat inspection will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Safety experts will also inspect children’s safety helmets to make sure they are fitted properly.
The Brentwood Fire Department will use its Fire Safety House to teach both children and adults. The specially equipped trailer includes an emergency escape ladder that children climb down when smoke is spotted in the trailer.
“The trailer is very visual, and kids remember the safety lessons when you can show them what you’ve just told them,” explained Brentwood Fire Department Lieutenant Chuck Hood.
The Health and Safety Fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information will be available in English and Spanish. Approximately 2,500 children are expected to attend the event to learn about various safety issues as well as poison control, nutrition and CPR. For more information call 936-0301.
