Dr. Keith Wrenn, professor and vice-chair of Emergency Medicine, was selected as one of 10 outstanding residency program directors in the nation to receive the first annual Parker J. Palmer “Courage To Teach” Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
Wrenn came to VUMC in 1992 to help create the Emergency Medicine residency program and continues to direct it. Its residents have had the highest board exam scores in the country the past five years.
In nominating Wrenn, Dr. Corey Slovis, chair of Emergency Medicine, said, “Dr. Wrenn is the epitome of a mentor. From the first day of each resident’s entrance into Emergency Medicine, every one of his residents views him as their leader, friend, protector and teacher.”
There are 7,934 ACGME-accredited residency programs in the country. Wrenn will be presented his award Feb. 11 in Chicago.
