The annual Earl W. Sutherland Lecture will be held Thursday, March 25, at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
Nobel laureate Dr. Alfred G. Gilman, Regental Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, will present "G Proteins and Regulation of Adenylyl Cyclase."
Dr. Sutherland was professor of Physiology at Vanderbilt from 1963-1973. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1971 for his discoveries related to cellular signaling and hormone action.
The department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics sponsors the Earl W. Sutherland Lecture.
Diane Ferlatte, a California-based storyteller who focuses on African, Southern and African-American stories, will be the guest speaker at the fifth annual 1999 Phillip W. Felts Lecture Series in the Humanities.
Ferlatte, an award-winning storyteller, will speak at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 15, in 208 Light Hall.
The lecture honors Felts, who was a 1956 graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and who served on the faculty from 1959 until 1979. He served as assistant dean of Student Affairs from 1975 until 1988.
