News Office wins video, writing awards
Medical Center News and Public Affairs has won two awards in this year¹s Parthenon Awards competition, sponsored by the Nashville Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
Barb Cramer won a Parthenon Award in the Video News Release category for the series of video news releases she produces for the medical center. The video news releases are television news stories about research, patient care, and education at VUMC, and are distributed both to regional television outlets and worldwide via NBC¹s affiliate network.
Wayne Wood, director of publications and editor of House Organ, the medical center staff and faculty magazine, won a Parthenon Certificate of Merit in Feature Writing for the story "The Voice." The story was about the person behind Vanderbilt¹s voice-mail voice, Marsha Graham, an actress from California. The winning article was the cover story in the August 1997 issue of House Organ.
y2k thing for May 1
As part of continuing efforts to cope with the dreaded "Year 2000," ‹ or Y2K ‹ computer problem, Vanderbilt's Y2K task force is hosting a special PBS broadcast on Friday, May 1, in 214 Light Hall.
The broadcast will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will consist of four 30-minute segments exploring various aspects of the problem, including:
o the nature and scope of the date-change problem
o possible technical solutions
o direct and indirect legal issues
o project management tasks and strategies; and
o ethical aspects.
In addition, video case studies will illustrate how some organizations and businesses are solving the problem.

Dermatology screening
The division of Dermatology will conduct a skin cancer screening for Vanderbilt staff and faculty on Wednesday, May 27, from 8 a.m. to noon.
There is no charge for the screening, but appointments are limited.
