The event, which honors Shockley, professor emerita at Meharry Medical College, includes the presentation of awards to individuals who are involved in partnerships that foster minority scientist career development.
Gibbons conducts research in the fields of vascular biology, genomic medicine and the pathogenesis of vascular diseases. He is committed to expanding the gender and ethnic diversity of biomedicine as well as to eliminating health disparities.
He is an established investigator of the American Heart Association and a member of the Institute of Medicine.
