Swan lands resident education award
Rebecca Swan, M.D., program director for Vanderbilt’s Department of Pediatrics and chair of the Graduate Medical Education Consortium, will receive the Parker J. Palmer “Courage to Teach” award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The annual award, given to 10 program directors across the country and across specialties, recognizes directors for “finding innovative ways to teach residents and to provide quality health care while remaining connected to the initial impulse to care for others in this environment.”
Swan will receive a plaque and recognition in March at the 2012 ACGME Educational Conference in Orlando, Fla.
“As a program director, I am able to practice medicine, engage in education and mentor the next generation of pediatricians – which is an honor in and of itself,” said Swan.
“I am proud of the award as it reflects more than just me, but rather the accomplishments made by the entire program.”
Swan arrived at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1997, serving as an assistant professor of Pediatrics.
In 2000, she became associate director of the Pediatric Residency Program, and subsequently was named director in 2002.
