Ultrasound group lauds VUMC researchers
Ken Niermann, M.D., and Martha Huller, M.D., were recently honored by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) for their presentations at the 50th annual meeting of AIUM in Orlando, Fla.
Huller, a Radiology resident, was awarded an Honorable Mention for her exhibit, “Sonography of Medically Treated Ectopic Pregnancies.”
Niermann, a cancer imaging fellow, was presented with the New Investigator Award for his presentation, “Microbubble Enhanced Oncological Sonography: Assessment of Treatment Response.”
The New Investigator Award is meant to encourage research among clinical fellows, to grant experience in presenting ultrasound research early in their careers. Niermann was one of six new investigators nominated for the award.
The AIUM is the largest medical society devoted to ultrasound in medicine.
Its publications include the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Sound Waves newsletter.
The annual meeting includes research presentations and exhibits, all with the purpose of encouraging ultrasound research among residents, fellows and medical faculty.
