VUMC nurses on move for Magnet

VUMC nurses on move for Magnet

Nurses are constantly on the move at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and a new event celebrates the steps they take daily.

The Magnet Education Steering Committee, Nurse Wellness and HealthPlus are teaming up to sponsor the Magnet Walk 2011.

This inaugural event is a three-month period for individuals and teams to tally their footsteps as part of VUMC’s second Magnet designation process.

“This is a way to keep our sights set on Magnet and promote our Magnet values around health and wellness,” said Chris Wilson, MSN, R.N., director of Clinical Education and Professional Development-VUH.

The Magnet Walk began Aug. 1 and runs through Oct. 31. Participants will track their steps through HealthPlus’ START! Program, which offers pedometers and converts other activities into steps.

Captains are rallying teams in their units and clinics, but individuals may also register, including non-nursing staff.

Prizes are awarded for reaching certain levels of steps.
