RxStar application lands national award

RxStar, a prescribing application developed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has earned a 2013 Surescripts White Coat of Quality.

RxStar, a prescribing application developed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has earned a 2013 Surescripts White Coat of Quality.

Surescripts is an e-prescription network connecting prescribers in all 50 states to payers and pharmacies. VUMC is among 72 recipients of the 2013 e-prescribing quality designation from Surescripts.

The White Coat of Quality is earned by e-prescribing technology providers who:

• Submit a letter from senior leadership affirming commitment to a goal of zero electronic prescription content errors.

• Measure e-prescription content error levels before and after quality improvement interventions, and report the measurements to Surescripts.

• Make software changes to improve e-prescription clinical content error levels.

• Provide a communication or education program to assist users to more effectively use their e-prescribing system to reduce clinical content errors.
