Portion of 21st Avenue South to be closed this weekend; other closureFeb. 15, 2012, 4:49 PM
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, through 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, the north- and southbound lanes of 21st Avenue South will be closed from Edgehill Avenue to Medical Center Drive.
Police officers and detour signs will be on site for the duration of the street closure to direct emergency vehicles and other related traffic to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. All non-medical center northbound traffic on 21st Avenue South will be directed to follow detour routes.

In addition, from 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, Pierce Avenue will be closed from Medical Center Drive to 23rd Avenue South.
This street closure is necessary for the tower crane removal at the 33-bed addition to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. During the closure, ambulances will access the Children’s Emergency drop-off from either 23rd Avenue South and Children’s Way, or 24th Avenue South to Pierce Avenue eastbound.
The Children’s Hospital main entrance, street-level crosswalks and entrances to medical center clinics at 23rd Avenue South and Pierce Avenue will remain open during this time. The second-floor sky bridge and walkways will be closed during the crane removal. Police officers and flagmen will be present to assist in directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic during this time.
