Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s Jane Case, DNP, FNP-BC, recently received the 2012 Tennessee Nurse Practitioner Excellence Award from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
The annual awards were presented at the 27th National Conference in Orlando, Fla., and recognize outstanding achievements by nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner advocates.
“It is wonderful to see Jane recognized on this level because she embodies all the qualities we all strive for as advanced practice nurses – critical thinking, evidence-based knowledge and empathy. She has a special talent that allows her to partner and empower patients in meaningful ways,” said Bonnie Pilon, DSN, RN, senior associate dean for Clinical and Community Partnerships. “She is a sought-after provider and a wonderful role model for our students.”
In addition to having taught Health and Wellness to VUSN Pre-Specialty students, Case has worked as a primary care provider for Vanderbilt Medical Group in the thriving Green Hills practice since 1998, caring for more than 4,000 patients. She is also one of the volunteer attendings at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s Shade Tree Clinic.
Case earned her MSN from Old Dominion University and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2010.
“Jane was part of our first cohort of DNP students at Vanderbilt. She distinguished herself throughout by her ability to apply her doctoral coursework to enhance care for her well-established patient population. It was never about Jane; it was about her patients,” said Donna McArthur, PhD, FNP-BC, program director and professor of Nursing.
