Adult cancer patients and survivors are invited to participate in Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center’s new Thrivership Program, which is designed to restore wellness through physical activity, enhanced nutrition, body awareness and emotional well-being.
During the six-week program, participants are invited to attend 90-minute classes which include guided exercise plus mindful movement along with interactive educational sessions on beneficial nutrition, stress management and healthy living skills.
Enrollees are encouraged to attend two additional exercise classes per week at the Vanderbilt Dayani Center for Health and Wellness or the Vanderbilt Center for Integrative Health.
“This new Thrivership initiative is just one facet of Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center’s new Wellness Program,” said Anne Washburn, MPH, administrative director of the REACH for Survivorship Program and associate director of the Office of Patient and Community Education.
“Cancer treatments can last for months or even years and can be stressful and debilitating. We are committed to helping patients and survivors develop skills that can restore their health and enhance their lives,” Washburn said.
Individuals enrolled in the Thrivership Program will receive a six-week pass to the Vanderbilt Dayani Center, a personalized exercise program and a quality of life assessment.
The first round of classes will take place on Saturdays between Sept. 29 and Nov. 12, from 10-11:30 a.m.
Space is limited to 12 adults per six-week class and all potential participants must be medically cleared by their clinicians.
The cost is $60, plus a co-pay (based on insurance plan) for the initial physical therapy evaluation.
