Vanderbilt University Medical Center will launch a new homepage design Friday, Nov. 30, for its website for the domain.

The new design aligns with the look and functionality of patient care sites and This will provide both visitors and internal staff a consistent user experience across all medical center sites.

Like the patient care sites, the new “data-driven” design incorporates insights from Web analytics and user feedback from focus groups and surveys. It also employs current best practices in Web design, resulting in a cleaner, easier-to-use design.

All the content currently found on the homepage will remain.

The redesigned site is mobile friendly and uses leading-edge “responsive design” that automatically resizes text and changes navigation for better usability on different-sized screens, including desktop monitors, tablets and smart phones.

The new design is more than a facelift—it is part of an evolving larger strategy for VUMC to develop a family of online properties with specific purposes for specific audiences that work together in a coordinated way.

Faculty and staff will find links and resources specifically for them in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage. At the same time, a patient or family member who came to the site could easily navigate to using a tab on the left-hand side of every page of the site.

All sites on the domain that are built in VUMC’s content management system SiteBuilder will transfer into the new design by mid-February. Questions about the transfer may be sent to

My Health at Vanderbilt, the online patient portal, is undergoing a similar redesign that will be unveiled next year.
