New creative writing course geared for cancer community

Cancer patients, family members and those who care for cancer patients often need a way to express the deep and often lasting emotions that a cancer diagnosis can bring.

Cancer patients, family members and those who care for cancer patients often need a way to express the deep and often lasting emotions that a cancer diagnosis can bring.

The new “Express Yourself: Creative Writing Series” gives everyone in the cancer community an opportunity to express and share those emotions. Series participants will have the opportunity to create original writing in a supportive and collaborative setting.

The free workshop is open to anyone affected by cancer, regardless of where the care is received, and no previous writing experience is needed.

The course will be led by a 2015-2016 Curb Creative Writing Fellow at Vanderbilt University.

Two series of workshops will be held Tuesdays from noon to 2 p.m. and lunch is provided. The first series will be held each Tuesday Sept. 8-29, and the second series will be held each Tuesday Oct. 20 through Nov. 17.

The seminars will be held at The Curb Center for Art, Enterprise & Public Policy, 1801 Edgehill Ave.

Participants can register for one or both series and are encouraged to participate in all sessions.
The program is a collaboration of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Vanderbilt Oncology Expressive Arts Committee and the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise & Public Policy.
