Armando Colombo, president and chief executive officer of InterMedical Hospital of South Carolina, has been named chief executive officer of Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital.
Colombo, who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital, said the position gives him the opportunity to work for a nationally recognized rehabilitation program and with Vanderbilt’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
“Vanderbilt’s Credo behaviors aligned closely with my own personal and professional philosophy,” he said.
A professional who likes to “challenge the norm,” Colombo said he looks forward to team building and providing the best experience for Vanderbilt Stallworth’s patients, families and staff.
“I want to welcome Armando into this important role within our health system,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, M.D., deputy vice chancellor for Health Affairs and CEO of the Vanderbilt Health System. “The Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital plays an integral role in the full continuum of care we are able to provide our patients who suffer traumatic injuries, stroke and other serious conditions. We look forward to his contributions as Stallworth and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation continue to flourish.”
Prior to his stint in South Carolina, Colombo served as chief executive officer of facilities in Augusta, Georgia; Houston; Tallahassee, Florida; Sarasota, Florida; and Leesburg, Virginia.
“Armando brings experience in the administration of rehabilitation facilities and a good understanding of how to integrate academics and patient care in post-acute care settings. We are very enthusiastic about his arrival,” said Walter Frontera, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and medical director of Rehabilitation Services at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A native of New York state and graduate of St. Louis University, Colombo and his wife, Lisa, have three children – Isabella, a senior at St. Louis University; Eddie, a sophomore at Seton Hall University, and Annalisa, a freshman at Johnson and Wales University.
“We are delighted to have Armando join our team,” said Laura Beth Brown, vice president of Vanderbilt Health Services and president of Vanderbilt Home Care Services. “He represents extensive experience in executive operations including pediatric and adult services and proven leadership experience with our joint venture partner HealthSouth. He is a leader in health care and we look forward to our future success under his direction.”
Vanderbilt Stallworth is a joint venture between Vanderbilt and HealthSouth, one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation services provider.
“Armando brings a wealth of experience to our team and to patients and their families at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital,” said Barbara Jacobsmeyer, president of the central region for HealthSouth. “He has a strong record of high performance, but most importantly, he believes in providing the best care for our patients, which made him an excellent choice for this role.”
