Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Plastic Surgery has a well-earned reputation of being among the nation’s best for reconstructive plastic surgery. With the opening of the new Vanderbilt Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Clinic in Brentwood, the group will have a more visible presence when it comes to cosmetic procedures as well.

“I can tell you that based on their education, their research portfolio and their surgical outcomes, we have some of the very best plastic surgeons in the country,” said Galen Perdikis, MD, chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery. “This new clinic location is our way of getting into the community and showing that we offer superior cosmetic techniques, outcomes and patient care. Also, this is a convenient, quiet location, with plenty of privacy and parking, which are all important for our patients.”

The new clinic, located at 343 Franklin Road, offers non-invasive cosmetic procedures and aesthetic treatments, as well as consultation and follow-up appointments for both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery patients.

“We will continue to perform cosmetic and plastic surgeries at the Medical Center’s Outpatient Surgery Center,” Perdikis said. “The safety profile of performing those surgeries at a major medical facility like Vanderbilt is important, and the well-being of our patients is always our first concern.”

Plastic surgeons dedicated to cosmetic surgery who specialize in surgical and non-surgical treatment of the face and body will consult with patients at the clinic.

The clinic staff also includes a nurse practitioner specializing in cosmetic procedures, four nursing staff members, a full-time aesthetician and four cosmetic coordinators.

The clinic offers the newest technology, Perdikis said, including Halo lasers to perform skin rejuvenation treatments. Patients often report shorter healing times following a Halo procedure compared to other types of skin resurfacing. The Halo can be used on all skin types and can treat both surface irregularities and damage from the sun, he said.

The new facility also offers CoolSculpting, a non-invasive fat reduction procedure that uses cryotherapy, or freezing of fat tissue. With a series of these treatments, some patients have had as much as 25-30 percent reduction in fat in the treatment area, said Perdikis.

“Many women don’t want a more invasive surgery, so we are offering this as another option,” he said. “As with just about any procedure, there can be varying results depending on your body composition, but our clinicians can give patients an assessment of what they can expect.”

A licensed aesthetician performs waxes, peels, facials and other services, and customers can come in for a personalized consultation to determine the appropriate skin care regimen.

If patients are not able to schedule an appointment, walk-in clinics with the nurse practitioner are offered on Wednesday afternoons from 12:30-5 p.m. at the new Brentwood location as well as on Monday afternoons at the Plastic Surgery Clinic located on the main VUMC campus.

“Any procedure that is done needs to be performed by an experienced surgeon that can manage any complication that may on occasion occur,” Perdikis said. “At Vanderbilt Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, we have the experience and expertise to provide the safest and highest quality results.”
