The Vanderbilt Transplant Center transplanted 63 patients in October, setting a Medical Center record for the most ever in a month.
On the adult side, there were 30 kidney transplants, 15 heart transplants, 11 liver transplants, four lung transplants and one kidney-pancreas transplant.
On the pediatric side, there was one kidney transplant and one heart transplant.
“The dedication of the transplant teams enabled 63 patients to receive the gift of life and enjoy the holidays with renewed health and hope,” said Seth Karp, MD, H. William Scott Jr. Professor and chair of the Section of Surgical Sciences and director of the Vanderbilt Transplant Center.
“We celebrate the teamwork and collaboration required to accomplish this impactful milestone.”
The Vanderbilt Transplant Center is the South’s premier transplant center, providing more chances for patients to participate in clinical trials and studies, as well as access to other specialists. Its transplant teams have performed more than 9,500 solid organ transplants since 1962, including all the major organs — heart, kidney, lung, liver and pancreas.
