Edward (Ted) Case, JD, Chief Compliance Officer for University of Rochester Medical Center, has been named Chief Compliance Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, effective Aug. 5.
At VUMC, Case will oversee strategic review, planning, implementation and operations for all compliance-related matters involving the Medical Center’s clinical, research and academic enterprises, including the development and implementation of system-wide training and communications programs to ensure all employees and affiliated parties are educated about VUMC’s compliance program.
Case will lead the VUMC Office of Health Care Compliance, which is charged with identifying and mitigating risks associated with potential violations of laws and regulations. The office also ensures internal programs, systems and controls are in place to promote lawful and compliant operations throughout the enterprise.
“I was attracted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by its outstanding national reputation as a leader in clinical care and medical research. There are very few places that are as well-regarded and as well-positioned to thrive in the fast-changing world of academic medicine and population health,” said Case. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with VUMC’s exceptional leadership and compliance teams and to contribute to the continued success of the organization.”
Case joined University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) in 2001 as an associate counsel and was promoted to senior counsel for compliance and reimbursement in 2006.
He was named Chief Compliance Officer in 2016, a role in which he had direct responsibility for the reimbursement compliance programs of two hospitals, an academic dental center and a 1,500-practitioner multispecialty group.
He also had oversight responsibility for URMC’s four affiliate community hospitals, three skilled nursing homes and its home care and hospice affiliates.
“Ted brings with him a wealth of compliance-related experience and is very familiar with the complex issues we encounter in the academic medical center setting. I’m delighted he has agreed to join VUMC and believe he will be a great leader for our compliance program,” said Michael Regier, JD, general counsel and secretary for VUMC.
Case holds a Doctor of Law degree from Fordham University School of Law, a Master of Education in higher education administration from State University of New York at Buffalo and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University. He was certified in health care compliance in 2013.
