The fourth annual Hidden VUMC Figures event will take place via Zoom at noon on Monday, Nov. 2.
In 2017, VUMC’s Office for Diversity Affairs initiated Hidden VUMC Figures to highlight the critical work accomplished by unsung heroes, some who have given more than 30 years of service to Vanderbilt.
The annual event is named after the Academy-award winning film Hidden Figures, which brought to light the important work of minority women who worked as “human computers” to calculate the precise flight trajectories for the first NASA space missions in the 1960s.
This year’s honorees are:
- Gladys Smith, News and Communications, 50 years of service
- Shirley Holland, Pediatric Nursing, 50 years of service
- Ed Mitchel, Health Policy, 51 years of service
- Lula Tucker, Endocriology, 45 years of service
The event will take place virtually over Zoom. To view online, visit https://zoom.us/j/94912183699. For additional information, contact Del Ray Zimmerman, director, Office for Diversity Affairs and LGBTQ Health, at del.r.zimmerman@vumc.org.
