The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has named two new division directors — Erin Fairbrother, MD, will serve as director of the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Amanda Yunker, DO, MSCR, will serve as director of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.

“Dr. Fairbrother and Dr. Yunker are well prepared to build upon the successes of their respective predecessors, Dr. Will Lee and Dr. Ted Anderson. I have the utmost confidence in their leadership,” said Ronald Alvarez, MD, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Fairbrother, assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, received her MD from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and completed her residency at VUMC. She is an expert in abnormal uterine bleeding, pregnancy care and delivery, and pediatric and adolescent gynecology.

“I believe the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt is poised to be a leader in the care of women, and I am proud to be a part of this group of physicians,” Fairbrother said. “As the new division director, I look forward to representing and advocating for my team as we continue to advance the quality of care for our patients and achieve our goals of outstanding delivery of women’s health care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.”

Yunker, associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is experienced in helping patients manage pelvic pain and endometriosis.

She obtained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas before completing her residency at the University of Oklahoma and her fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at the University of North Carolina. She also obtained her Master of Science in clinical research from the University of North Carolina.

“I am very excited to take on this role,” said Yunker. “I have had excellent role models since coming to Vanderbilt, and I will continue to look to them for guidance.

“My goals are to continue to provide excellent gynecologic care to our patients while fostering an environment that supports physician wellness and promotes world-class education to our trainees.”
