Mike DeFoe has been named executive director of Finance for Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital.
DeFoe has nearly 20 years of experience specializing in accounting, finance, leadership and operations. He has been the interim executive director of finance for the hospital since April and previously served as controller since 2007.
“Mike has served this community and hospital well for the past 13 years,” said Bill Rich, MHSA, president of Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital. “He has extensive experience in both investor-owned and tax-exempt health care organizations. His strengths include financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, budgeting and capital planning, as well as the ability to build strong relationships and high-performing teams. It is a pleasure to welcome Mike to the executive team.”
Prior to joining Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, DeFoe was the controller at Dyersburg (Tennessee) Regional Medical Center; director of finance for Ameris of Arkansas, a health care system in Blytheville, Arkansas; and a senior accountant at Baptist Memorial Healthcare in Blytheville.
DeFoe earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance degree from Arkansas State University.
“Mike has been impressive in leading the finance function for Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital during the recent transition, and he is uniquely qualified to support the hospital, the staff and patients far into the future during this critical time in health care,” said Jim Kasnick, CFA, vice president of Financial Planning, Budget and Analysis for VUMC.
“He has provided great support for the hospital and developed its first, and successful, budget under VUMC. He is well-suited to help facilitate the successful setup of EPIC and our new ERP systems and will serve the hospital well in this regard.”
