Refreshed Antiracism Online Resource Guide now available

Education and awareness are crucial steps in advancing the VUMC’s Racial Equity Plan. That’s why the Office of Health Equity recently unveiled its refreshed Antiracism Resource Guide. This is an online group of resources in one easy-to-access place. The guide provides curated educational offerings to help advance individuals and departments on the journey of addressing racism and promoting racial equity.

“Expanding our perspectives and gaining a deeper understanding is essential for us to grow as people and as an organization,” said Elisa Friedman, Associate Vice President for Community Health and Health Equity.

“This process can also feel overwhelming, so we’ve combed through hundreds of different resources and put the most helpful ones in one place.”

Visitors to the site can take their own, self-guided journey through the Antiracism Resource Guide section that groups articles, documentaries and more in categories such as understanding the roots of racism, addressing racism in the health care & clinical setting, and frameworks for organizational change. The guide lives within the Antiracism Hub, which also includes a library of recorded VUMC panel discussions and workshops.

“As an academic medical center, we all have a thirst for knowledge. This guide is a continually updated resource for everyone in the VUMC community, so bookmark the site and refer to it often,” said Friedman.

The Office of Health Equity team is also available by request to guide and assist any VUMC group with learning about equity and racism, developing tools, or providing trainings.

The Antiracism Resource Guide is a component of VUMC’s Racial Equity Plan, a comprehensive, multi-year roadmap for how to combat structural racism, recruit, retain, and promote a racially and ethnically diverse workforce and eliminate racialized medicine.
