VUMC employees will have an opportunity to better understand the anxieties LGBTQ+ individuals experience when seeking health care.
The VUMC Pride Employee Resource Group will present the virtual panel discussion “What’s It’s Like — Health Care Anxieties for LGBTQ+ Individuals” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20 on Microsoft Teams.
This event is open to the entire Medical Center and will feature a panel of VUMC employees who identify as LGBTQ+. Panelists will share some of their health care experiences as patients and specific fears they have about being LGBTQ+ and receiving health care.
People interested in attending are also encouraged to submit workplace appropriate questions they have always wondered or been afraid to ask regarding how best to interact and engage with LGBTQ+ patients.
The goal of this panel, sponsors say, is to shine light on some of the anxieties the LGBTQ+ community experiences when receiving medical care. In addition, attendees will have an opportunity learn best practices for making health care settings more inclusive and a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community.

The Pride ERG is open to all VUMC employees and celebrates the vibrant community of LGBTQ+ employees at VUMC, including colleagues who identify as nonbinary. In addition, the group champions VUMC’s Strategic Directions of “Making Diversity and Inclusion Intentional” by creating a more inclusive workplace through education, communication, and mentorship.
