COVID-19 Bivalent Boosters available for certain populationsJun. 9, 2023, 3:37 PM
Recently, a second COVID-19 bivalent booster became available for certain populations at higher risk for COVID-19 complications. If you are 65+ and have had 1 bivalent vaccine at least 4 months ago OR you are immunocompromised and have had 1 bivalent vaccine at least 2 months ago, you are eligible for a second COVID-19 bivalent vaccine.
Because COVID-19 rates are declining in Middle Tennessee, VUMC experts recommend that most people 65 and older wait for their booster until the fall when rates of respiratory illness, including COVID-19, may rise. However, you may consider getting your second COVID-19 bivalent vaccine sooner than the fall if you are planning on traveling internationally, undergoing major surgery, or if recommended by your healthcare provider.
