Reporter Forrest Sanders from WTVF News Channel 5, interviewed Odessa Settles, RN, MSN, CM, who is retiring after 54 years at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in the Department of Neonatology and Pulmonology. All the while she also performed with various singing ensembles, appeared in several movies and modeled.

NBC News national reporter Erika Edwards interviewed Cosby Stone, MD, assistant professor in Allergy/Immunology, VUMC Drug Allergy Research, for a story about penicillin allergy de-labeling.

Stacie Dusetzina, PhD,  professor of Health Policy, was quoted in a Reuters piece about a federal policy to seize patents of government-funded drugs if the price of the drugs is too high.

Michael DeBaun, MD, J.C. Peterson, MD Professor and professor of Pediatrics, was quoted in a Scientific American story about the FDA’s approval of a CRISPR gene editing treatment for sickle cell disease.

ABC News reporter Mary Kekatos, CNN health data editor Deidre McPhillips, Medical News Today reporter Robby Berman, and Huffington Post senior lifestyle reporter Brittany Wong interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, for stories about COVID hospitalizations, handwashing, pneumonia in China, whether the Moderna vaccine causes cancer, and why it’s not too late to get vaccinated as the holidays and respiratory virus season ramp up. Schaffner also was quoted by The New York Times’ The New Old Age columnist Paula Span, USA Today reporter Eduardo Cuevas, AARP and NBC News’ “Today.”

Becker’s Healthcare reporter Kelly Gooch is interviewing Gerald Hickson, MD, founding director, Center for Patient & Professional Advocacy, for a story addressing professionalism across generations, tangible examples of unprofessional behavior in hospitals, and how organizations are addressing it.

Imaging Technology News managing editor Christine Book interviewed Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. & Henry P. Pendergrass Professor, Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, for a story about sustainability initiatives.
