Lab transformation FAQs, part 4

Will anything change about placing orders for lab tests after the move? What about during the Cerner downtime on March 1 and March 2?

After the move, you will continue to place orders for lab tests in eStar using the same process as today.

During the Cerner downtime (March 1 at 7 p.m. – March 2 at 2 a.m.), you will also continue to place orders as normal in eStar. There are, however, a few important details regarding downtime orders:

  • Only STAT core lab tests will be resulted during downtime—priority cannot be changed
  • Add-on tests cannot be ordered during downtime
  • Specimen collection will be same—nurses will also print eStar lab order requisition
  • Routine tests will be collected and held during downtime and then performed and resulted during recovery window (March 2 from 2:00 – 9:00 AM)
  • Anticipate delays for all laboratory tests received by the laboratory from beginning of downtime until recovery window closes

I have questions about how to order a lab test – who do I contact?

  • Questions on how to order a test in eStar be directed to the HELP desk (3-HELP)
  • Questions on tests or results can be directed to the laboratory customer service department (5-LABS)
  • Medical consultation is available for laboratory testing (e.g., aid in selecting most appropriate test, test interpretation) by on-call laboratory medicine faculty–refer to Synergy for on-call lab faculty
