Roger Dmochowski, MD, MMHC, professor of Urology, Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynecology and director of the Section of Female Pelvic Medicine, has been promoted to Vice President and Executive Medical Director of Perioperative Services at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He will function full time in this role.
“This new physician leadership role comes at an important time for VUH Perioperative Services, as we reorganize the leadership and functionality of the Clinical Service Center,” said VUH President Lee Ann Liska, MBA. “We are very excited that Dr. Dmochowski has agreed to take on this role as we increase our infrastructure to support the surgical enterprise at VUH and across the health system.”
Dmochowski will be a key member and leader of the perioperative executive team that includes the associate nursing officer, associate surgeon-in-chief, executive vice chair of Anesthesiology, and associate operations officer for perioperative services.
This executive team will consult with a perioperative senior leadership advisory committee that includes Liska, Seth Karp, MD, Surgeon-in-Chief and chair of the Section of Surgical Sciences, and Warren Sandberg, MD, PhD, VUH Chief of Staff and chair of Anesthesiology.
“As we look to the future, it is important to establish this organizational reporting to accommodate the growth in our VUH surgical volumes,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“This will allow for improved oversight of VUH surgery operations,” Pinson said. “This new organizational alignment will create opportunities for better optimizing utilization, greater patient and provider satisfaction, and improving support for clinicians working in VUH as well as growth in the new hospital tower.”
Dmochowski joined the VUMC faculty in 2002. He is internationally recognized for contributions that have advanced the treatment of female urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. He also has held a series of successively responsible administrative roles.
“Dr. Dmochowski has done much to improve the culture and operations of surgical services. He has played a major role in designing and outfitting new surgical space, managed all aspects of the operating room environment, and built strong relationships with all perioperative members,” Liska said.
Dmochowski earned his bachelor’s degree from Trinity University and medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed residency training in urologic surgery at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute and subspecialty fellowship training in female urology, urodynamics and prosthetics at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles.
He also holds a Master of Management in Health Care degree from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management and recently completed a Master of Arts in conflict management, negotiation and mediation from Lipscomb University and is a certified mediator in Davidson County.
