Huang’s three-year term as a governor began May 19, immediately following the annual APSA meeting and runs through the annual meeting in May 2027.

APSA seeks to provide the best surgical care to patients and families by supporting an inclusive community through education, discovery and advocacy. The group’s goal is to ensure that all children receive the highest quality surgical care.

As a governor, Huang will work to support the professional life cycle of its members and be a voice for children with surgical problems, with an intentional focus on areas in which the voice of a pediatric surgeon is especially effective.

“APSA is my professional family, and I feel privileged to lead by serving this organization,” said Huang. “Our vision is to promote diversity and inclusivity, which fosters innovation, scientific discovery and collaboration, for the betterment of children with surgical diseases and trauma.”

Huang has many roles at Vanderbilt, including Chief Surgical Quality and Innovations Officer; vice chair for Surgical Quality and Patient Safety for the Section of Surgical Sciences; vice chair of Clinical Services for the Department of Pediatric Surgery, and associate program director for the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program. She joined Vanderbilt in 2020.
