Jessica Singh Delwadia, MBA, has been named Vice President of Managed Care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center effective Aug. 1. She has been serving in this role in an interim capacity since April.
Delwadia will report to Cecelia B. Moore, MHA, CPA, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, and secondarily to C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer.
Delwadia will be responsible for managed care contracting on behalf of the VUMC enterprise including the Medical Center’s clinical facilities, Vanderbilt Medical Group (VMG), along with its affiliates and joint ventures. She will also be responsible for creating and maintaining strategic relationships with the Medical Center’s most critical payer accounts. She will also collaborate with teams across VUMC, Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network and VMG to effectively communicate and educate about VUMC’s managed care relationships.
“I would like to thank Jessica for her service in the interim leadership role over the past four months. Jessica assumed the interim role at a crucial time with several important negotiations in progress. She showed remarkable leadership and skills managing those discussions to favorable conclusions. I look forward to working with Jessica in the future as she continues to further build positive working relationships with our payer partners,” said Moore.
Over the past decade, Delwadia has served in increasingly responsible roles in the Department of Finance’s Office of Managed Care, including senior contract manager, associate director and most recently, as director.
She has been a leader in negotiating and securing competitive reimbursement for the health system, which has a total operating revenue of $7.6 billion.
Delwadia served as a stakeholder and contributor on a multidisciplinary team that led a Lean process improvement project that resulted in a reduction in unnecessary inpatient days by more than two days, simultaneously increasing patient satisfaction and lowering costs.
With a strong background in pharmaceutical negotiation and reimbursement, Delwadia has worked for improved payer coverage of gene therapies and medications newly approved or with expanded approval from the Food and Drug Administration. This has given VUMC patients greater access to the treatments they need.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in the interim position and am honored for the opportunity to serve the VUMC enterprise in the permanent position. I want to continue to build relationships with payers, employers and the state, to ensure specialized high-quality health care is accessible. I’m truly excited for the future of VUMC,” said Delwadia.
Before joining VUMC in 2014, Delwadia was responsible for all managed markets national contracting at Aptalis Pharma, including Medicare Part D, Medicaid, Managed Medicaid, commercial, group purchasing organizations, and vendor and consulting agreements. In addition, she was a key stakeholder in corporate strategies and provided compliance education through review of health care reform, government regulations and laws.
Delwadia holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Business Administration degree in health care administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
