Mario Davidson named director-elect of VUMC’s Academy for Excellence in Education

Comprised of more than 100 distinguished educators, the academy was formed in 2006 to enhance the education environment in the School of Medicine and VUMC.

Mario Davidson, PhD, associate professor and associate vice chair of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Department of Biostatistics, is the new director-elect of VUMC’s Academy for Excellence in Education.

Per its mission statement, the academy was formed in 2006 to enhance the educational environment in the School of Medicine and VUMC by advocating for the development, support and recognition of dedicated educators, by sustaining a community of educators, and by fostering educational excellence, innovation, leadership and scholarship.  

The academy is composed of more than 100 distinguished educators; currently serving as director is Kendra Parekh, MD, MHPE, associate professor and vice chair for Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine and assistant dean for Undergraduate Medical Education in the School of Medicine.

Davidson, a past winner of the academy’s Geoffrey David Chazen Award for Innovation in Medical Education, will serve as the academy’s director-elect for two years, to be followed by two-year terms as director and past director.

Davidson studied mathematics at Tennessee State University in Nashville, earning a master’s degree in mathematics from Tennessee State and a PhD in statistics and mathematics education from The Ohio State University in Columbus. He joined Vanderbilt in 2007.
